Typhoon Maysek

My dear friends and family,

This week has been so crazy and I can say that I've officially survived my first ever Typhoon. 

On Monday, Sister Villanueva and I invited our ward missionaries to the Ballad home for Family Home Evening. We had been looking forward to it all day, and had been preparing by making giant pots of sopas and spaghetti to share with everyone. We watched a video about the week of the Savior's death and resurrection because it is Easter this week. We had planned to also teach the ward missionaries about the Be-Attitudes, but we ended up having a testimony meeting. It was so spiritual. We each bore witness of Jesus Christ and how his Atonement has made an impact on each of us personally.

The next few days were pretty typical. On Thursday, though, we explored Cabbo, which is now one of my favorite areas. It is definitely our farthest area and is part of our new, expanded area. It was a lot of fun! We met so many new people!

We didn't learn of the Typhoon until late on Wednesday. We were in the middle of a teaching appointment and our Zone leaders texted us, telling us to get our 72 hour kits ready because a Category 5 typhoon was headed our way.  Immediately afterword, we started our "Maysek" preperation with canned food, water, and candles. (They take disaster preparation pretty seriously around here!) Each day however, the typhoon became weaker and weaker. By the time it hit us on Easter Sunday morning, the typhoon had weakened until it became just a tropical storm. It rained a lot on Sunday, but we were still able to work. It worked out perfectly because the rain was a really nice break from the brutal heat of Tuguegarao. We did splits and went contacting. We ended up with 38 contacts on Sunday alone! A new record! Our hard work is paying off because on Sunday we also got 6 new investigators, making it 8 total for last week! 

We are so blessed to have been protected from the storm and to have the success that we've had out here. I know that the Lord is helping us because the Lord of Israel leads this mission!
