We have seen so many
miracles here in Ilagan this week! The flood has gone down so much and
we were able to access almost all of our areas this week.
On
Monday, the day after the storm, the flooding was still pretty bad. The
Alingigan sisters were still unable to go back to their apartment. We
wanted to still be productive with our time and try to have a
spiritually uplifting experience, so we decided to have a "Sister
Missionary Family Home Evening." We prepared dinner and then stacked our
mattresses to make couches and had Sister Sanchez and Sister Baker
teach the lesson. They chose to teach about the importance of Humility.
It was so much fun.
On Tuesday the floods in Alingigan had receded and they were able to return safely to their apartment.
We
were also able to do so many service projects this week. There were
many homes that needed fixing and cleaning. We were able to help them.
We also had the opportunity to visit an active member from our branch
who has cancer. He is so sick that he can hardly move, and we sang hymns
to him for almost two hours. It was such a spiritually uplifting
experience. We knew that we could not ease the physical pain he felt,
but we could inspire and comfort his spiritual pain.
We
had a good week this week and also had two companion exchanges. My
companions were Sister De Guzman and Sister Balaoing. It was a lot of
fun to work with each of these sisters. Sister De Guzman is definitely
ready to train. She is such a hard worker. Sister Balaoing is also an
incredible missionary. When we worked together, she quite literally
contacted everyone in our path. Even the people who were shy and trying
to hide from us. I feel like I learn more from these sisters than they
learn from me.
Sister Labis and I are
also nearing our one year marks here in the mission. We had a great
surprize waiting for us. Our housemates, Sister Baldomaro and Sister
Balaoing ordered a cake from a member of our ward! Anyways, it was such a
great week!
Love,
Sister Lewis
