Baptisms

What a long week!

We taught our progressing investigator again, Sister Vanessa. After a lesson on the Restoration and the Book of Mormon, we gave her the reading assignment of Moroni 10:3-5. She had read her assignment, but asked us what it meant. We taught our lesson on the Holy Ghost and how he can confirm the answers to our deepest questions. As an investigator of the Church, she has a lot of these questions. We taught her how to identify the Holy Ghost and act on it's impressions. The spirit was really strong as we testified of the Holy Spirit and how it can help us everyday. We then asked Sister Vanessa if she would like this gift every day of her life. She said yes. Sister Velasco asked her if she would follow the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ, by being baptized by the proper authority in order to receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost. She said yes. We have set the date for October.

 Sister Velasco and I spent the week preparing for our other baptisms. Last Saturday we had seven baptisms from three different families. It definitely was a lot of work. It took a lot of faith and a lot of praying because one of those families lives almost an hour away from the church and had no ride. We were worried that she wouldn't be able to attend her own baptism. We tried our best to arrange rides for everyone, fill out membership records, and get everyone ready for their special day. When all the craziness subsided, we had a really great service. The missionaries of our zone sang "I'm Trying to be Like Jesus" for a musical number. It really brought in the spirit strongly. On Sunday they all showed up at church early. They were confirmed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. I am so happy for Sister Cathy, Sister Marisol, Sister Mary Joy, Sister Carell, Sister Jana, Brother Jason, and Brother Juren for their decision to keep the commandments of the Lord and be baptized as a member of our church.
